Poulton wins Mullet match 1 in style

A nice record number of 29 anglers enrolled for the Mullet League 2013 organised by Kingfisher Sport Fishing Association.

 

The first match was held today morning in Gzira front and mullet was caught on not less than 18 different pegs.

 

Early casts indicated the day was going to turn out fruitful as Poulton managed to net a nice sized mullet on his very first cast.

 

Most of the anglers were fishing the English running float systems and some others opted for fixed float on bolognese 7 and 6 mtr rods.

Some others opted for the traditional pole float fishing with hand poles ranging from 7 to 9 mtrs.

 

It was clear evident mullet was biting away from the shore as the English running float system turned out to be the winners trick on the day.

Mostly bread was used as bait.

 

The match started at 7.00am sharp and ended at 11.00am with Pierre Poulton getting the podium netting a good 4.9kgs of all nice sized mullets ranging from 200 gms up to 500 gms each specimen.

2nd on the day was James Gilson also fishing running float with a 2.8kgs of mullet.

3rd placing went for the 2010 Maltese National Champion Fortune Calafato with 2.03kgs.

 

All mullet caught was kept in personal keepnets and released after the weigh in ensuring a 100% return of all fish back to their natural habitat.

 

Next event will be held on the 20th October and the venue will be decided later on by the committee.
