Newcomer Josef Cassar grabs top spot

Today KSFA anglers fished the 3rd singles league match, which similar to the previous match also necessitated a change of venue.

This match had to be originally fished at Sliema Exiles with the alternate being Sliema ferries, but such as never happen before both venues where inaccessible, whereas Exiles was unfishable due to the strong NW winds which had been affecting the Maltese Islands for the past couple of days generating very rough seas, Sliema Ferries presented a different problem in the shape of the Malta Marathon.

So another venue had to be chosen and the choice fell of Pxkerijja Valletta which eventually also proved to be a problem as the competition had to be stopped after only 3hrs due to a large ship which berthed in the area effecting no less than 6 pegs.

This decision was reached after consultation between committee members present and the anglers affected.

The match started on time at 0700. Fish caught were mainly bottom fish, the most predominant the Rainbow Wrasse with a sprinkle of common Pandora (pagell) and red mullet (trill). Methods used by the anglers were mostly, paternoster rigs, running ledger and the Bolognese, with the pole occasionally joining the fray.

In 1st place today we had another newcomer, this time it was the turn of Josef Cassar, who by casting as far out as possible managed a credible 1.11kgs. In 2nd place we had Jonathan Bonnici with a total of .93kgs and in 3rd place yet again the veteran John Attard with .77kgs.

Section Winners were: Fortune Calafato .74kgs, Joseph Ellul .67kgs, Andre Borg .49kgs and Jonathan Vella .62Kgs.

Next Match will be at Birgu Toqba on the 16th of March.
