2012 - Highlights of Sport Shore Fishing in Malta
KSFA ...... what a year ...... an eventful year full of top level competition.
It's either you hate it or you're into it with full blast ..... that is what compeition fishing is all about.
It's more of exchanging fish catches with medals and trophies won by the most versatile and sometimes even lucky on the day.
KSFA were always the leaders in shore fishing competition fishing in Malta and this year was again a supereventful year in which we saw some new faces to the sport grabbing up some silverware.
This year was also an innovative one where it comes to financing in the club ..... with good help from Mister Fish the main and exclusive sponsor for Kingfisher, Mecca Marine, Kalkara Regatta Club, Bartolucci Malta, Cafe Du Brasil, SailPower and Steven's Garage we managed one of the top league winnings with some good cash prizes for the winners. There was also the introduction of personal sponsors to some top anglers from foreign fishing tackle suppliers.
The year kicked offf with the mullet league which saw good compeition and some good catches in the Gozo match ....... Nathaniel Attard kicked off the first match with a nice sized mullet which ended up as the biggest mullet caught in 2012.
Charlo Borg did some magic in the second match .... while Fortune Calafato got the podium in the 3rd match Gzira. Final match was held in Birzebbuga which saw Robert Attard scraping a victory in very bad weather conditions.
Franklin Formoza ended up as the mullet man 2012 with a total catch of 2.72kgs. Adrian Nelson placing 2nd overall with 2.28kgs while Nathaniel Attard in 3rd place with 1.97kgs
It was then turn for the doubles league which was won by Charlo and Andre Borg ........
Some super catches were recorded this year .... in the Xghajra match Stefan Borg and James Micallef hit a super catch of over 7kgs of fish in just 4 hours .....
In May it was a nice experience for Adrian Nelson, Stefan Borg and James Micallef as they participated in the Grauvell Open Float Fishing Tournament in Valencia ....... the lads from Malta did not do very good in final placings but it was very difficult to adapt to much different conditions than fishing locally
The Mister Fish tournament was won by Franklin Formosa and Darren Stafrace with a total catch of over 11kgs of fish fished in just 12 hours on a separate 4hour session in three consecutive days.
The singles League 2012 champion was newcomer Darren Stafrace who ended up with just 8 penalty points earning him a super place amongst the top level anglers in shore fishing.
Kingfishers also did great in Federation this year as all the five members of team competing the Europeans coming October in Cadiz, Spain will be formed from ex team Malta anglers Pierre Poulton, John Attard, Roberto Bugeja, Adrian Nelson. Robert Attard (Robby) was good this year as he earned a place in the Maltese National for the very first time!
John Attard from KSFA was also crowned as Malta's no 1 angler for 2012 .......
