Kingfisher Sport Fishing Association MALTA

KSFA knows its origins to its brainchild and founder Steve Johnston who has since left Malta to seek  pastures new in Canada, where he has already revolutionised the art of float fishing! Steve's idea was to promote sports fishing in Malta, with particular emphasis to catch & release, which was unheard of back in the 1980's. It all started when a group of anglers used to meet and fish competitions. This eventually prompted Steve to go a step further, and thus in 1990 Kingfisher Sports Fishing Club was born! Which eventually proceeded to become an association, with the integration of The Mullet Club and the Kids Club under its umbrella.

KSFA'S  popularity soared where at any  given time it counted over 200 members, but some people found the catch & release bit a hard pill to swallow, it was a huge culture change back then and to a certain extent still is!

48 hours fishing marathons were organised every year for various charities where our anglers fished non stop, with live entertainment for the people in the backgroud. Donations were collected through Phone ins and on the spot. At one time we even had TV coverage from local stations throughout.

These eventually gave way to 3 day tournaments, where our anglers fish 3 different venues in couples during different times of day which makes for a very intense and exciting weekend.

KSFA also organises various leagues, which are the Doubles League where as the name implies, anglers fish in pairs, the Singles league, Mullet League and Float Fishing league. These are spread throught the year and are held in the main on Sunday mornings. The float fishing league doubles up for Qualifications for International Tournaments

In 2023 KSFA achieved what could be considered a milestone in its illustrious history when for the first time, it applied and was given the green light to send its anglers abroad to represent Malta in the European Float Fishing Championships in Italy where its Anglers returned with a very credible result.

One year in and  2024 saw KSFA participate in the World Float Fishing Champiodhips which were held in Samos Greece.

In 2025 and our anglers will be travelling to Menton France!

Come 2027 and a further milestone will be reached as KSFA will host the World Float Fishing Championships in Malta.
